Everyday Moments

I’m finding God to work so much more on me in the ordinary days of my life. I always look for God to speak in some grand fashion at a crisis moment or when I’m high on the mountain top.  But, in reality, I’m finding I draw closer to God during my everyday moments.

Remember those times of family reunions either during the summer or at holidays when everyone sits around and talks?  Nothing gets done, or so it seems to us scheduling people, but you learn so many things you never knew before. You find out why your grandmother starting sewing and realize it’s not the reason you thought at all.  Your uncle tells the story of when he was younger and laughter erupts as you never thought that possible.  You build relationship and camaraderie more than you ever realize until months or years down the road when you see how that time together has somehow bonded you.  These are the memories that were made by being with one another.  You didn’t have a true agenda except to get together and fellowship.

Do you ever plan time to get together and fellowship with God? I’m not talking about the times at church with other people. I’m talking about the intimate one-on-one time with God. You read His Word and listen to His stories. You hear things that you never thought possible. You read of disbelief, hardships and blessings.  You erupt in laughter when you read of others doing the same things you tend to do.  Just hanging out with God seems like a foreign concept to many, but I’ve come to long for that time. That is how God intended for our relationship to be until sin came into the world.

So, I have to ask…what is my true agenda when I come to God? Is it to beg and pray for what I think I want or need in my life, or is it simply to be in His presence to fellowship and learn more about Him?
