Let’s Set Some Boundaries

Ants! You have to love to hate them. I have seen so many ants around my house lately and it is driving me crazy. Actually, I was okay with it all until I found three in my house. That was it! They had finally crossed my boundaries! I currently began a Bible study on the book Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life by Drs. Henry Cloud & John Townsend. We are having a great time in our group talking about what makes us tick and what areas we need to work on in our lives. As we started the study, I was excited to read the book again because it was a game changer for me. I never realized I would apply this topic to ants, though. I found it funny that my first thought upon seeing the ants was, “Now, you’ve crossed the boundaries!” It was such an easy case. Ants outside = good. Ants inside = bad. Not all things are an easy case.  Here are some non-easy examples are when we allow things or people to cross boundaries in our lives:

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Church activities
  • Sports
  • School

All these things can be good (like ants on the outside), but when we allow them to come into our house and cross our boundaries, they begin to interrupt our lives. When was the last time you looked at your life from a “boundary” perspective? If you’ve never read the book, Boundaries, I suggest you buy it now!

What area do you struggle with the most to set boundaries?
