Don’t Worry About the Wicked?

I was reading through my chronological Bible today and came across Psalm 37:3-5:

“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and He will help you.”

This verse got me through a hard time years ago and I loved rereading today in light of activities going on with people killing people.

I then read the first part of the psalm and the first two verses read:

“Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither.”

Not worrying might seem easier said than done, but if we trust in the Lord, He says we will live safely in the land and prosper. Some people might think this sounds too good to be true. I feel that we can live in peace knowing that we have God in our hearts.

So, we trust in the Lord and all will be good? It depends. Is your cup half empty or half full? Do you choose to see God’s protection in the many areas of your life, or are you choosing to only see the “possibilities” when others are murdered.

It is time we give evil a true name: Satan. Not him, not her, not them, not those people, not terrorists. No, it is all Satan and his evil schemes.

Sure, people are choosing to do evil, but they are deceived. We must do a better job at our prayers. We must pray against the evil one, for our fight is not against things of this world. Paul reminds us we are fighting a spiritual battle. Let’s all stop, take a breath, and not fight against each other. Let’s fight against the one who desires the death of all of us. And, that’s Satan!

So, what are we to do?

Pray for the souls of those desiring to carry out Satan’s schemes. Pray their schemes will be confused. Pray they will see the Lord’s love and their hearts would be softened by compassion. It is time the church starting acting like the church. There are two sides to the story: God or Satan. When we take sides against people we only produce hurt. When we take sides in the name of good vs. evil, we can stand united and pray that all will come to know and love Jesus as their personal Savior.

It’s time to trust in God and pray for the wicked, for we all are sinners saved by the grace of our Lord Jesus. Thanks be to God!
