Sorry, but you really don’t have an excuse!

Zippori, Israel

As you might already know, my husband and I went to Israel this past year and so much of my perspective on life has changed. I feel I might be in the middle of another spiritual crisis as I’m reliving my time in Israel walking the same land Jesus did while here on Earth.

Jesus was human; He was fully human. In order to help refresh your memory, allow me to tell you a few things He did while He was here while being human.

  1. He healed the sick.
  2. He commanded demons to flee those they inhabited and tortured.
  3. He walked on water.
  4. He stood up for the less fortunate.
  5. He spent time alone with the Father.
  6. He taught others to pray.
  7. He fed the hungry.
  8. He wept.
  9. He treated everyone as an equal.
  10. He taught love.

Because Jesus was fully human, this presents a problem for me. I am human; I am fully human just like He and His disciples were. Remember, the disciples were the ones He empowered to heal and cast out demons. Do you see where I’m going with this? We, too, are called to:

  1. Heal the sick – with our words, love, prayers.
  2. Cast out demons – Pray in Jesus’ name against the evil of this world; call it like it is…sin!
  3. Walk on water – do the impossible.
  4. Stand up for the less fortunate.
  5. Spend time alone with the Father – no matter our busy schedules.
  6. Teach others to pray – disciple them.
  7. Feed the hungry.
  8. Weep over the brokenness of this world.
  9. Treat everyone as equals.
  10. Love.

God has empowered us to do all of these things!

What hit me in Israel is the fact that I make so many excuses in life; even without realizing I’m doing so. Yet, I have no excuse. Jesus did all these things and at times He had thousands of people vying for His time and attention. I am limiting God in all He desires to do through me.

Being human is no longer an excuse.

Being human gives me the freedom and empowerment to do the work of God in a world that is starving for His love. It’s time to stop making excuses.
