Another Decision Made

We are at General Assembly and Conventions for the Church of the Nazarene. This is the church my family and I choose to be associated with in our lives. During General Assembly, there is a lot of business that takes place and there are a lot of conferences.  Some people struggle with the business of the church when the church updates and clarifies what we believe as a church.  After all, our relationship must be a personal decision. Yet, we cannot do it alone and so we as Christians drift to a church with which we can relate. So, here we are at Assembly attending workshops and going to the nightly services.

Day one brought two workshops and a service. Our three kids attended all of them with us. Mind you, they are nine, twelve, and thirteen. They were a little less than excited to say the least. Yet, at the end of the service, they invited people to come down to the altar to dedicate their lives to God’s calling. My nine-year-old asked to go down. It was a long walk! As we made it to the front, he said he wanted Jesus to be his Lord and Savior. I loved how he phrased that. It was both an acknowledgement of who God is and what He does for us. He saves us from ourselves, our Savior, and He must become Lord of our lives, our acknowledgement of His Lordship.

So, no matter how many flaws any church or religion might have, I am constantly reminded we are all flawed and in need God. One of the lines I liked from a session regarding ministering and loving Muslims, Buddhist, and Hindu went something like this, “We are all seekers.  Religion is man seeking God and Christianity is God seeking man.”

My prayer today is we, as my son did on Thursday, can all be seekers of God and we can let down our walls as God seeks us. We make a decision every day of who we will follow and what we will do. Today, I challenge you to make your decision and choose God and His plan for your life.
