Who Are You?

Last week was fun talking about the enneagram! It was great hearing about what number you were and realizing I still love you all, if not a bit more!!!

Hearing from you last week made me realize even more that I’m not the only one trying to figure out who I am. I see that you are searching, too. What is great is that we are all on a journey to find ourselves in one way or another and I love that I have people with whom I can discover together.

Wanting to find out who you are indicates a bit of “angst” to me. There is something that seems to be missing, a possible FOMO (fear of missing out) that there is something you should know that you don’t know, there is somehow a void.

It reminds me of the song Laura Story sings, “Blessings“. I love the entire song, but a great line in it states,

“We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not our home.
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy.”
Yes, I realize this is more than one line, but go and listen to the song now. You’ll also want to hear the story behind the song here.
You see, finding out who you are cannot simply be found in a personality type or in a number. I’m convinced we continue to find out more about ourselves because something still feels off. I think the thing that feels off is that this world is not how God intended for the world to be. We were supposed to be in constant communion with Him just like in the Garden of Eden. We realize the “angst” when we realize this world cannot satisfy us. We realize this is not our home.
So, what are we to do as we desire to find out more about who we really are? I think we have to open our Bibles, open our hearts and mind to pray and listen to God, and to be in communion with others who can point us to God. Drawing closer to God will show us His desires for our lives. We will be drawn to become the person He knows we can be. He has great plans for you. You’ll discover this plan more easily the closer you are to God.
“So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”
Genesis 1:27 NIV

Want to know who you are? Know God. You were made in His image. Know Him in His fullness and in His greatness. Doing so will help you in this “aching of this life”.  Where in your life do you need to see that you are made in God’s image?
